Artist Statement

I am an artist with an endless fascination for human beings and the complexity of the human condition. I create paintings and sculptural art dolls, exploring the relationship between us and the outside world. I draw inspiration from the way our humanity lurks beneath the surface of history, politics, science and culture and how our inner worlds bleed into the broader fabric of the universe.

My work centres around emotional and slightly grotesque human forms. In my paintings, I use bold colours and flat patterns in juxtaposition with delicate human flesh to blend the real and surreal. My art dolls do much of the same through distorted yet realistic features, uncomfortable proportions and nostalgic textiles. The characters in my work are figments of my imagination but could be any of us, strange people in a strange place, half real, half imagined.

My goal with my work is to encourage the viewer to feel their own humanity. In the strange beauty of my work, I hope my audience is reminded of how surreal our world is and how bizarre and lovely it is to be us.
